Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes teeth whitening is safe. This process has been used successfully for many years now and there is a lot of clinical and laboratory research to show that it is not harmful. Mint Cosmetics offers a premier teeth whitening gel that has been fully tested to provide the best results for your teeth. You should NEVER use any kind of domestic bleach on your teeth. These can be harmful not just to your mouth but your overall health. Our teeth whitening kits contain tried and tested ingredients you can safely use to get brighter, whiter teeth.

Why is the mouth guard necessary during the whitening process?

Each Mint teeth whitening kit contains mouth guards. These are moulded to the individual shape of your teeth so that they can hold the gel in place so it can get to work. This is the most effective way of applying the tooth whitening gel as the saliva in your mouth can dilute the gel and wash away the active components.

How much gel do I need to use with my mouth guard?

You will only need a thin layer of our teeth whitening gel. This can be applied to the mouth guard easily and will distribute itself effectively when you place the guard in your mouth. It is important to note that using more gel will not increase the speed of the whitening process. You need to follow the instructions provided with the teeth whitening kit for the best effects.

How does teeth whitening work?

Our teeth whitening kits are very straightforward. The gel contains an active peroxide ingredient. As this breaks down it releases oxygen. This will then work its way into the pores in your teeth (similar to the pores in your skin) and oxidise stains. This is a very effective and safe way to remove deep down stains from your teeth that can build up over time.

Why do teeth sometimes whiten unevenly?

Your teeth may have uneven levels of enamel. It is common for the enamel to be worn thinner on the edges of the teeth. This can mean that teeth will whiten more quickly in these thinner areas. This is normal and if you continue to whiten your teeth they will clean up to the same shade all over.

Can I use teeth whitening products if I am pregnant?

It is not recommended that you use any teeth whitening products whilst you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Why are there dark spots in my guards after whitening, is this normal?

You may see dark spots on your mouth guards after a teeth whitening treatment. This is normal and is commonly caused by old silver (amalgam) fillings. This is nothing to worry about and will not cause any harm to your teeth.

Is excess mouth-watering (salivation) normal during the teeth whitening process?

This is a normal reaction and the excess salivation is caused by wearing the mouth guards. It should stop once you take the guards out of your mouth again.

What happens if I smoke or drink coffee/red wine during teeth whitening treatments?

There are no harmful effects to smoking or drinking coffee or red wine during teeth whitening treatments. However this is not recommended as it can prolong the process. You should also avoid drinking these products for at least two days after the treatment. Drinking lots of tea, coffee and red wine can cause your teeth to discolour much more quickly over time.

What is the difference between home teeth whitening kits and dentist’s whitening treatments?

The only really difference between our home teeth whitening kits and dentist’s treatments is the cost. Both treatments use the same kinds of active ingredients and can provide the same results. With home teeth whitening kits you can get the bright, white smile you have always wanted but at the fraction of the costs.

How soon will I start seeing results?

You can see the results of your tooth whitening treatment within just a few days in most cases. The results will depend though on the condition of your teeth and the depth of the staining. If you have very deep yellowing and discolouration then it could take 2-3 weeks to see positive results. You will need to stick to the whitening course to see the best effects and the longer you use it the longer the results will last.

One of the main benefits of the Mint Cosmetic tooth whitening system is that it is safe to use on all dental work. It can restore your crowns, dentures, bridges and more to their original colour. You should get more advice from your dentist though before using our product on your dental work.

How often will I need to touch-up my tooth whitening?

This will depend on your diet and age. Over time your teeth can become discoloured again following a successful tooth whitening procedure. You should consider touching up your teeth at least every year with our home teeth whitening kit to your maintain a bright looking smile.

How should I store my tooth whitening kit?

You should store the teeth whitening kit in a safe place away from direct sunlight. Ideally this should be in temperatures above freezing and below 26C. If stored properly a teeth whitening kit should last up to 2 years.

Mint Cosmetic teeth whitening kits do not contain any ingredients that are derived from animals or tested on them.

How long will my order take to arrive?

At Mint Cosmetics we aim to process and ship all orders within 1 to 3 working days. This will depend on stock availability and demand though. For the mainland UK we use Royal Mail and courier services for fast delivery. Air Mail services are provided for Republic of Ireland deliveries (between 4 and 10 days).
